SOMA National Spring Convention
Washington, D.C.

Join us in Washington, D.C. for the next SOMA Convention!

The SOMA Conference for all members begins on Friday morning, April 25th, and ends on Saturday evening, April 26th. The meeting will be held at a new location this year- the Embassy Suites D.C. Convention Center. This will provide us with enough space needed to hold all events including the SOMA Adopt-A-Campus Dinner on Saturday evening! The hotel address is:

Registration

The registration form for the SOMA Convention must be completed and sent to somanat@aol.com by Tuesday, April 1st. For those chapters who are either not coming to the SOMA meeting, or who will not be staying at the Embassy Suites, please contact Elizabeth Hodor, our National SOMA Administrator, to let her know of your plans. Hotel Accommodations

National SOMA has reserved rooms for all board members, as well as one room per chapter. The reservation begins on Wednesday, April 23rd and ends on Sunday, April 27th. Convention Assistance Funds (CAF) covers the hotel ($330.91/night which includes tax) registration ($60/person) and raffle tickets ($50/35). The rate for double rooms is $308.01/night. Please contact Elizabeth regarding the amount in your fund to cover these items, as well as to submit the names of the persons in each room. Thank you!

Check-In, Check-Out, and Parking

You may check-in to your rooms anytime after 4:00 pm on the day you arrive. Check-Out is scheduled each day at 12:00 pm. Valet parking is available for $29.00 per day.

Additional fees

Room Charges:
Except for the room rate and tax, chapters will be responsible for any additional charges (movies, internet, etc). A credit card will be taken at check-in for these charges.

Porterage Fees:
For group arrivals of 10 or more persons, there is an additional fee of $6/person/day. This fee will be applied to the room cost and will be the responsibility of the chapters to pay. To avoid this fee, do not arrive in groups of ten or more!!

Additional Rooms

If your chapter should need any additional rooms besides the one SOMA has reserved, there are extra rooms available in the SOMA block. These will be provided on a first come/first serve basis and will require that the chapter charge the room fee to a credit card. Rooms are going quickly so be sure to act fast!

PREFERRED METHOD

Go to: www.washingtonconventioncenter.embassysuites.com

Enter your reservation dates on the home page (type your preference in the boxes at the upper right hand corner of the page). On step 2 "Dates and Preferences" under Group/Convention Code (3rd box down) enter in the group code SOM. Doing so will alert the system that the reservation goes in the SOMA block. Then continue on as you normally would to make the rest of your reservation.

ADDITIONAL METHOD

Call 1-800-EMBASSY or 1-800-362-2779 and ask for the Convention Center Embassy. Be sure to mention that you are with the SOMA room block, which is under SOM.

The rooms are available at our group rate only until March 24, 2008 so book early!

Registration cancellations

Chapters that cancel registrations within 14 days of the House of Delegates meeting (after April 11) will be responsible for paying these fees - no credit or refunds will be given.

DO Day on the Hill Registration

DO Day on the Hill will be held on April 24th, 2008. Registration is free for students, and must be done separately from SOMA Meeting Registration. Please go to https://www.do-online.org/index.cfm?PageID=adv_main&au=D&SubPageID=doday to register. If you have any questions please contact the Department of Government Relations office at (800) 962-9008. Registration deadline is March 21, 2008, at 5 p.m. EST.
