Recent Grant Winners

Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine - Their SOMA chapter received funding to rent a large helium-filled dinosaur balloon and marched in the Chicago St. Patrick.s Day Parade to raise awareness of osteopathic medicine.

Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine - Their SOMA chapter presented a program to third grade students in the Des Moines Public Schools entitled .What.s in a Doctor.s Bag.. This program allow student to learn about the equipment that physicians use while examining patients. The Oncology Club at Des Moines University also received funding for a research symposium.

Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine - Their SOMA chapter organized the .Walk a Mile Program., a .nearly new. shoe drive that collected shoes that were then donated to the homeless population at Tulsa.s Day Center for the Homeless. They also used this event to promote their annual Osteopathic Run.

Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine - Their SOMA chapter received funding for a wonderful program entitled .Tar Wars.. Through this program they educated 4th and 5th grade students in the West Philadelphia area on the health risks associated with tobacco use. They also addressed the variety of advertisements by tobacco companies and the social influences of smoking.

Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine - The Women's Health Club organized a Teen Life Conference.

Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific - Another program that received funding through the Student Initiative Grant was an Obesity Awareness Program, which was presented by their SOMA chapter. This program was presented to elementary and junior high students to address the issues of healthy eating and active living.
